2013 Year of the Snake Stamps

Happy new year fellow collectors! What are you planning this year? More travel? More stamp exchanges? Well whatever it is I suggest you put it into writing. I bought myself a planner to remind me of everything I planned to do and achieve this year. And a pair of glasses for a crystal clear vision of what I wanted to be this year. LOL. I was born on the year of Earth Snake and I can feel in my snake skin that this year will be better than the last. These chinks are quite serious with their chinese zodiac thingies you know.

And talking about year of the water snake which will officially start this February 10 on Chinese calendar,  post offices worlwide are now releasing snake stamps to commemorate 2013 as Year of the Snake. I dont have any of these stamps yet but I found some on numerous post offices websites that are worthy of sharing.

Hong Kong 2013 Snake Stamps."Year of the Snake" is the second special stamp issue of the fourth Lunar New Year Animal Series. Agile and elegant, the snake has always had a special place in artistic expressions. In this issue, the beauty of this fantastic reptile is represented using four different Chinese folk arts. Adding to the traditional ambiance of the New Year is a silk stamp sheetlet, which also makes a stylish gift for family and friends.

Artifacts Stamps for Swap

I myself has been very confused what stamps to collect. Got 2 shoe boxes filled with stamps and I was really having a hard time classifying them and where to put them. Thank goodness the post I created last month Hobby: Stamp Collecting has given me the light on what to do. So I decided to give up some of them in exchange for other themes which I give more priority.

I got here 85 artifacts stamps from Yemen, Israel, Italy, Malta, Mongolia, Bhutan, China, and many more for a swap. I'm looking for the following themes in exchange from any countries: mushrooms, cats, dogs, WWF stamps, trees, flowers, pre-historic animals, frogs, and bats. Also I no longer send first because of bad experiences :(

If you are interested for this swap please drop me a message on our facebook page Stamp Right There. Note that this a first come first serve basis and what you see below is what you'll get. :) Send me your proposals!

You'll probably find more stamps for swap on this add site:

Maxim Cards on Endemic Species

These are maxim cards personally designed by Boben John Emanuel of India. The stamps were issued on October 16, 2012 depicting the Endemic Species of Indian Biodiversity Hotspots. The venated gliding frog, hoolock gibbon, bugun liocichla, and nicobar megapode are the celebrated species peculiar only to particular localities or regions in India.

The Vanated Gliding Frog has a face value of 500 paise. The specie is said to be restricted in Indira Gandhi National Park.

The Hoolock Gibbon stamps has face value of 500 paise. The hoolock gibbons (Hoolock) are also known as langoor. In northeast India, the hoolock is found south of Brahmaputra and east of the Dibang Rivers. Its range extends into seven states covering Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura(The Seven Sisters).

Bugun Liocichla stamp has face value of 2500 paise. The Bugun Liocichla was first spotted in 1995, it was described as a new species in 2006. It was discovered in Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh, India, by an astrophysicist, Ramana Athreya.

Nicobar Megapode or Nicobar Scrubfowl can be found in some of the Nicobar Islands (India). The specie is now vulnerable to extinction due to hunting. The 2004 tsunami is believed to have wiped out populations on some islands and reduced populations on several others.

Stamp Covers

Few days ago, I got the chance to view some of Jahfer Stamps' covers collection posted on his facebook. The stamps on the covers are simply interesting.

Jahfer is from India but has moved to Dubai for work. He started into this hobby 15 years ago and has been very fortunate to have honest trade partners and an access to a wider selection of stamps worldwide. He even exhibited his stamp collection when he was still on the 10th grade. How cool is that? He got more than 600 covers now on his collection.

Since they're just too many, I have only selected 4 covers with really amusing details.

On this cover from Taiwan you probably first noticed this eye-catchy crab stamps. These stamps are actually one of the 4-stamp set issued by Chungwha Post last April 15, 2010. The stamps were issue to create an awareness on the existence and importance of Taiwan's marine life.

The crab on the stamp is a Scandarma lintou, an excellent tree climber. You may also find some crab stamps here: crab stamps.

This stamp cover from Brunie contains wild orchids stamps which is part of  Wild Orchids of Brunie Darussalam Series-2 issue on 2009.

View more covers here:

Better-known for diverse culture and booming tourism, Tourism Malaysia has hailed 2007 as the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 with deals from Manchester United and Chelsea F.C. for promotion. On March 19, 2007, a 4-stamp set was issued to showcase Malaysia's beautiful landscapes, and colourful cultures.

Canada's stamps are always amazing! The definitive stamps features the following beneficial insects: the paper wasp (Polistes fuscatus), the assassin bug (Zelus luridus), the large milkweed bug (Oncopeltus fasciatus), the margined leatherwing (Chauliognathus marginatus) and the dogbane beetle (Chrysochus auratus). The stamps were issues on October 19, 2010.

If you have wonder stamps and covers to share just let us know through our facebook page and we will be very glad to take and look. If they are indeed wonderful then we'd be very glad and happy to feature them here!

Dogs Stamps

Dogs are man's best friend and this is known to all dog lovers. They are probably the friendliest and most playful creatures on earth. They are good companions and very loyal. I really love dogs and for me they're not just pets, they're friends. And because I love these cute friends of mine, Im posting few of my dog stamps on this blog!

New Zealand's Health stamps on 1982 picture dogs of 3 kinds (Labrador, Border Collie, and Cocker Spaniel). Unfortunately, I got only 2 out of 3. 2 cents of the stamp's value goes to NZ's health services.

Le chiot is a French phrase for "the puppy". On 2006 France has issued a set of 4 pieces stamps entitled Young Animals. The set contains the puppy, the kitten, the ponny, and the lamb. I got only the puppy though.

More dog stamps here:

Beagles! They reminded me of Shoeshine from the 2007 movie Underdog based on an American TV series by W. Watts Biggers. Shoeshine is a beagle who can fly and has super canine strength! Anyways, the post office of Benin issued a set of 7 stamps of dogs on August 23, 1995. The dogs featured are: German Shepherd, Beagle, Great Dane, Boxer, Pointer, Fox Terrier, and Schnauzer. I got only 4. :( You can see the stamps on Scott Catalogue: Benin #741-747.

Just recently I came across to one of my facebook friend's cover collection. This cover is owned by Boben John Emanuel from India.Boben also got a good collection of insect stamps in covers which we will be sharing on our next post.

This is Trixie. She is a 5-month old Labrador Retriever. Trixie has been with our family ever since she was little. We used to have her inside the house 'till she grew so fast that we can no longer manage having a four-legged giant running inside the house. She broke some vases, dvds, and even tore one of my favorite shirts but we don't mind because we lover her. Without Trixie, our home will never be as fun as what it is now.

WWF Bird Stamps

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an international non-governmental organization working on issues regarding the conservation, research and restoration of the environment. It is the world's largest independent conservation organization with over 5 million supporters worldwide, working in more than 100 countries, supporting around 1,300 conservation and environmental projects.

The group says its mission is "to halt and reverse the destruction of our environment".Currently, much of its work focuses on the conservation of three biomes that contain most of the world's biodiversity: forests, freshwater ecosystems, oceans and coasts. Among other issues, it is also concerned with endangered species, pollution and climate change.

Most countries have shown support to WWF by issuing stamps picturing every countries' endangered species. The postage stamps have served as an awareness and benefited the on going efforts to conserve wildlife.

Malawi WWF Bird Stamps

Love birds are one of my favorites but they are also one of the most exploited birds.  In coordination with WFF, the Malawi post office has issued last September 30, 2009 a set of stamps depicting Lilian's Lovebirds (Agapornis lilianae). The Lilian Lovebird is also know as Nyasa Lovebird and is the smallest parrot in the mainland Africa.

Most Famous Stamps 1

The Basel Dove stamp classified to
be extremely rare philatelic item.
Basel Dove Stamp

The Basel Dove Stamp is one of the world’s famous and notable postage stamp. The stamp was issued on July 1, 1845 by the Canton of Basel (member state of the federal state of Switzerland). It has a face value of 2 ½  rappen and was the only stamp issued by Basel. It is the world’s first tricolor stamp printed in black, crimson, and blue. The stamp was designed by Melchior Berri which featured a white embossed dove carrying a letter in its beak, and inscribed with “STADT POST BASEL”

Current estimated value: 19,448.59 US Dollars

Uganda Cowries

Uganda Cowries classified to be
very rare.
The Uganda Cowries, also known as the Uganda Missionaries, were the first adhesive postage stamps of Uganda. Stamps were produced in Kampala, Kingdom of Buganda, a subnational kingdom of Uganda.

Due to absence of printing press in Uganda, the stamps were made on a typewriter by Rev. E. Millar of the Church Missionary Society, in March 14, 1895, at the request of C. Wilson, an official of the Imperial British East Africa Company. After Millar received a much-needed new ribbon, the color of the typewritten characters changed from black to a violet color. The stamps were valid for postage within the Kingdom of Buganda; in adjoining kingdoms and provinces they were used only for communications between officials of the Church Missionary Society.

The paper used was extremely thin and the design shows the initial of the jurisdiction and a number for the denomination.

Current estimated value: 3,219.10 US Dollars per pair

British Guiana 1c Magenta is known by
many to be the world's most famous
stamp.
 British Guiana 1c Magenta

The stamp was produced in Georgetown, Guyana in 1856. The British Guiana 1c magenta is noted by many philatelists as the world's most famous stamp. At present, there is only 1 known specimen to exist.

It is imperforate, printed in black on magenta paper, and it features a sailing ship along with the colony's Latin motto "Damus Petimus Que Vicissim" (We give and expect in return) in the middle. Four thin lines frame the ship. The stamp's country of issue and value in small black upper case lettering in turn surround the frame.

Only one copy of the 1c stamp is known to exist. It is in used condition and has been cut in an octagonal shape. A signature, in accordance with Dalton's policy, can be seen on the left hand side. Although dirty and heavily postmarked on the upper left hand side, it nonetheless could be the most valuable stamp in existence.

Current estimated value: 935,000.00 US Dollars

Another set of most famous and notable stamps will be posted soon. Keep visiting for more valuable information about stamps.
